In general, the microstructural characteristics were typical of those produced by pressureless sintering of a submicron sized powder. Figure 5. The setup consisted of a gas gun, a striker rod and a long (incident) bar. The incident bar included a momentum trap on the end impacted by the striker rod and a standard Vickers indenter tip fixed on the other end which contacted the glass bars.
